NTA, Workers Union Sign CBA

first_imgThe National Transit Authority (NTA) and the United Workers Union of Liberia (UWUL) have signed a new collective bargaining agreement aimed as enhancing the working relationship for both the management and the workers.Collective Bargaining Agreement is a process of negotiation between the employee or group of employees and their employer with the aims of promoting, regulating good and professional working relationship.“Our interest as management is to maintain industrial management and we strongly believe as long as there is peace, there will be improvement at NTA. We are very happy as management of NTA to have such document that both the management and the workers can use in achieving its goals. We completed all terms of the CBA on January 22, 2015.”At the official Signing ceremony yesterday held at the compound of the NTA in Gardnersville, Monrovia, the Managing Director, Tarnue N. Jeke, said the situation of signing the CBA was tough but was glad that such a document would be used to help in moving the institution forward.According to NTA Managing Director, the document has a lot of good things that everyone would hope for in working at the NTA especially in doing the Liberian people’s work and, by extension, the management. He emphasized that the negotiation of the collective bargaining agreement between the NTA and workers union was a long process, which involved the representation of the workers and the management of NTA working hard to ensure that the discussion of terms were rigorously negotiated.Mr. Jeke explained that, “As management of NTA, they must be able to balance the welfare of the employees while ensuring the company sustainability for the benefit of all stakeholders.”According to him, the issue of collective bargaining agreement is also a human rights issue and was important to prioritize such agreement, referencing article 23 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which references the ability to organize workers’ unions. In remarks, David Sackoh, Secretary General of the United Workers Union of Liberia, expressed gratitude to the NTA management for the initiative that would help in creating better working relationship at the NTA for the next three years.A cross-section of the workers lauded the NTA management for the atmosphere they continued to create at the NTA in ensuring that the work of the Liberian people is done.“The management has been very concerned about the workers and creating such document will help in solving some of the internal situations first. We are grateful that we can have such working relationship with the management,” Mr. Sackoh said.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
