URGENT ROADS WARNING: ICE CAUSING MAJOR PROBLEMS


first_imgTHE AA has issued an urgent roads warning for Co Donegal.It says it’s icy around Letterkenny, Ballybofey, Castlefinn and Lifford.And it is particularly icy on the N15 Donegal/Ballybofey Rd at Barnesmore Gap. Extreme fire warnings issued for hot Easter weekend


first_imgAn orange, high-fire warning has been issued for swathes of Donegal as forecasters predict a scorching Easter weekend.The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine issued the warning on Thursday, April 18 and it will remain in place until Tuesday, April 23.Temperatures are set to soar between 17C to 21C over the holiday weekend. Donegal County Council has urged landowners and members of the public to exercise caution and to take all necessary measures to prevent the occurrence of wildfires involving material such as gorse, heather and similar.The council is also urging landowners and members of the public not to engage in activities that could cause wildfires – especially to those heading outdoors to take extra care with camping stoves, cigarettes and throw-away barbecues.Householders or building owners in areas susceptible to wildfire are advised to remove or cut back any vegetation in the immediate vicinity of their house, building or oil tank to prevent wildfires damaging or destroying their property.Members of the public are urged to be vigilant and to report any uncontrolled or unattended fires immediately to the Fire Service by dialling 999 or 112. Big excitement in Letterkenny as third Green Shoots book officially launched


first_imgTHERE was big excitement in Letterkenny yesterday morning as players from a host of local schools and clubs took part in the official launch of the third Basketball Ireland Green Shoots Player Pathway manual.After the hugely successful launch of the first two Green Shoots coaching manuals in 2017 and 2018, Basketball Ireland launched the third and final coaching manual at Letterkenny IT.Picture: Children from local clubs and schools in Letterkenny in attendance at yesterday’s Green Shoots launch with Basketball Ireland Development Officers, Paul Carr and Niall McDermott.
