A 25-year-old pork-knocker was on Saturday killed after being hit by a falling tree in Obanna Backdam, Kuribrong, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni).The dead man has been identified only as “Navesh” of Port Kaituma, North West District, Region One (Barima-Waini), who was working on a dredge in Region Eight.Guyana Times understands that the miner along with two of his coworkers were jointly working in the area with a three-inch water pump and four-inch engine.However, at about 11:00h, it began raining. The rain was accompanied by heavy winds. This newspaper was told that shortly afterwards, one of the workers heard a cracking sound and observed that trees were about to fall.This newspaper was told that he raised an alarm for his workmates to run, but according to reports, “Navesh” stood and began looking up at the falling trees. A large branch from one of the falling trees then struck him to the head as he started to run.The man was picked up by public-spirited citizens and rushed to Obanna Landing, but on arrival, his body appeared to be lifeless. Nevertheless, he was then taken to Powese Landing. On Sunday, Police ranks examined his body and discovered a large wound to the back of his head.Meanwhile, according to Police Commander of that region, Superintendent Ramesh Ashram, the man’s cause of death can only be confirmed when a post-mortem examination is conducted.Although there is a wound to the back of his head which allegedly occurred when the tree fell on the man, investigators said they have not yet concluded their investigation and will do so after the PME results have been submitted.
