This year’s London Marathon women’s winner Paula Radcliffe will be taking part in the launch event in Battersea Park. In the last 48 hours, the efforts of those who took part in the Flora London Marathon have inspired thousands of women including Paula Radcliffe to sign up for Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, supported by Tesco.In the past two days a record 30,000 women have joined up for the women-only fundraising walks or runs. According to Cancer Research UK, many of them have taken inspiration from the achievements of the Marathon runners. Jo Symington, Head of Race for Life, says: “This year’s Marathon has really inspired people to take action and do something to raise money for charity. We’ve been inundated by women wanting to join a Race for Life event since Sunday and are completely overwhelmed by the public’s response. first_img Tweet LocalNews Over sixty nurses awarded for professional excellence in nursing by: – June 4, 2012 48 Views   no discussions Share Sharing is caring!center_img (L-R) Nurse of the Year Maria Moise, President Dr. Nicholas Liverpool and Most Outstanding Customer Service awardee Lorie JamesThe Nursing Service through the Ministry of Health has recognized over sixty (60) nurses for professional excellence in nursing at its first annual Nursing Awards Ceremony on Sunday; the climax of a month long of activities to celebrate nurses and nursing.Nineteen (19) nurses were awarded for excellence in customer service, twenty-two (22) for professional excellence and six (6) for management excellence.The Nurse of the Year Award was bestowed upon Maria Moise while Lorie James received the Most Outstanding Customer Service award.Other awards went to Letitia Lestrade-Wyke for dedication and hard work in secondary health care while Florestine Lewis was awarded for her dedication and hard work in primary health care.Delores Sanchez was recognized for appreciation of service as Nurse Anesthetist, while Principal Nursing Officer; Caesarina Ferrol who thought of and helped to plan the nursing awards was presented with an award of appreciation. Health minister Julius Timothy congratulated and reminded the nurses of their responsibility of “uplifting the nursing profession and taking it to the next level” noting that this could be accomplished with “dedication and commitment”.“As patients advocate you must ensure that at all times your patients as clients receive the necessary care that will assist in their speedy recovery and rehabilitation when necessary. Your clients depend on you especially during their illness when they are most vulnerable. Let us therefore make them comfortable”.Meanwhile, Acting Prime Minister Dr Colin McIntyre urged the nurses to “be good extension officers” and deliver the best care possible to their patients.“No one forgets the nurse who attended to them in the hospital, the mid wife who delivered their first child and the district nurse who checked mother and child thereafter. I am proud that our achievements are many; our vision is clear and our commitment in unwavering however we cannot be complacent in these achievements. We must continue to strive for excellence and professionalism in nursing and the entire health system and to maintain an environment that is conducive to providing remarkable health services”.The awards ceremony was celebrated under the theme “Professional Excellence in Nursing – a partnership with our customers,” under the patronage of the President Dr. Nicholas Liverpool and Mrs. Liverpool.They were also serenaded and encouraged in song by Dominica’s Lady of Song Ophelia Marie.[nggallery id = 192]Dominica Vibes News Share Sharelast_img read more
