The company plans to invest more than $9 million on the project, and has also committed to the creation of 80 new, full-time jobs and retaining 48 existing positions over the next three years.JLE Industries received a funding proposal from the Department of Community and Economic Development including a Pennsylvania First Program grant for $150,000 and $160,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits.“The opening of this facility commemorates a milestone in our journey to become the premier transportation, logistics, and energy field service company in the Appalachian basin,” said Jason Adamsky, CEO and co-owner, JLE Industries, LLC. “This state of the art facility, which will house more than 150 JLE associates, will be the epicenter and strategic hub for the continued growth of our business.”The project was coordinated by the Governor’s Action Team, an experienced group of economic development professionals who report directly to the Governor and work with businesses that are considering locating or expanding in Pennsylvania, in collaboration with Fay-Penn Economic Development.JLE Industries, LLC is transportation, logistics and field services company serving the energy and infrastructure development industries. Conservatives seek criminal investigation of PMs trips to Aga Khans island


first_imgOTTAWA — The federal Conservatives want the RCMP to look into whether Prime Minister Justin Trudeau broke the law by accepting family vacations on the Aga Khan’s private Caribbean island.In a letter to RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki, Conservative MP Peter Kent says a thorough investigation should be conducted to ensure Canadians have confidence in the integrity of government.Kent’s 26-page letter notes that members of Trudeau’s family visited the private retreat of the Aga Khan, a billionaire philanthropist, on three occasions from 2014 to 2017.In December 2017, then-federal ethics commissioner Mary Dawson found Trudeau contravened four sections of the Conflict of Interest Act in relation to a Christmas 2016 stay on the island, saying the holiday could reasonably be seen as a gift designed to influence the prime minister.In his letter, Kent cites a Criminal Code provision that prohibits a government official from accepting a benefit of any kind from someone who has dealings with the government.Dawson’s report said the federal government had supported projects of the Aga Khan Foundation Canada by contributing nearly $330 million to initiatives in various countries.The government also regularly consulted foundation representatives on current and emerging development trends and priorities, she noted.Following Dawson’s 2017 findings, opposition parties argued Trudeau should refund the treasury for all or part of the transportation and security costs related to the Christmas 2016 trip.Trudeau acknowledged at the time he should have checked with the ethics commissioner’s office before accepting the holiday, and said he would now clear all family vacations with the commissioner.“I’ve always considered the Aga Khan a close family friend, which is why I didn’t clear this family trip in the first place, but given the commissioner’s report, I will be taking all precautions in the future.”In September 2017, then-lobbying commissioner Karen Shepherd said there was no basis to a complaint that the Aga Khan violated the code for lobbyists by allowing Trudeau and his family to stay on the island.However, a Federal Court judge recently ordered Shepherd’s successor, Nancy Belanger, to take a fresh look at the matter.The court said that as a board member of the foundation, the spiritual leader of the world’s Ismaili Muslims was directly and legally connected to the organization bearing his name and was acting as its representative in giving a gift to the prime minister.Ottawa is contesting the ruling in the Federal Court of Appeal.— Follow @JimBronskill on Twitter Jim Bronskill , The Canadian Presslast_img read more

Recently, Member of Parliament for the District, Hon Norman Saunders responded to the question on the issue on RTC radio and said it is a grave inconvenience which even impacts patients at the hospital. “Because now instead of getting to Grand Turk even at 10 o’ clock which is considered late for many things that South Caicos residents would want to do in Grand Turk, you cannot get to Grand Turk before 11 o’ clock now.”Hon Saunders continued, “the arrangement the government had was that South Caicos patients visiting the Grand Turk hospital would normally go up in the morning and come back in the afternoon. That is almost impossible now, they will not get to Grand Turk before 11 o’clock and depending on the circumstances they will have to overnight so that is an extra cost for the Government.”The Member is calling on Government to intervene; calling the situation ‘drastic’. The Premier had promised that he would get all of the stakeholders together to resolve the issue. The change was conveyed to Saunders days before it took effect on October 11. Airline tickets are as much as $100 more for travel out of South Caicos. Counting Page Views Dont Call it a Business Model


first_imgWhile correlating user behavior to the business model is the only way to judge revenue performance, surprisingly few publishers can differentiate between a page view that is aligned to the business model vs. a page view that is not. Consequently, many publishers are chasing low value page views and jeopardizing their long-term viability. Might as well hire some bots…Matt Shanahan is vice president of strategy at Scout Analytics, a specialist in digital revenue optimization. Measuring the number of page views as a key performance indicator (KPI), is a growing practice among publishers. In fact, editorial and development teams are increasingly being rewarded for boosting page views, with some publishers even shaping their entire site just to generate page views.That is not a business model! Let me prove it with an extreme example.Any publisher can deploy bots to generate page views for their site. No advertiser will pay for those page views, because the page views have no advertising value. While page views could be used as a KPI by the editorial team to generate more content for bot consumption, no revenue is coming through the door to keep them employed.The right metric for publishers should be revenue performance indicators (RPI), which means the metrics tie directly to the business model. Many publishers are looking to build recurring revenue streams from loyal audience members, and in this case, RPIs such as audience size, loyalty, and level of engagement are meaningful. However, some publishers are relying on non-recurring revenue from SEO acquired visitors, and in this case, RPIs such as percentage share of search and time on site become more relevant. In paid content, RPIs such as price per article or price per device become critical. Sweden arrests man for terrorist crime after truck attack

Photo: AFPSweden early Saturday arrested a man for a “terrorist crime” hours after a beer truck ploughed into a crowd outside a busy department store in central Stockholm, killing four and injuring 15.The man was arrested “on suspicion of a terrorist crime through murder,” Karin Rosander, a communications director at the Swedish Prosecution Authority, told AFP.Police said earlier on Friday after the attack that they had detained the man who “matched the description” of a photo released of a suspect wearing a dark hoodie and military green jacket.But they did not confirm if he drove the truck.According to the Aftonbladet newspaper, the same man is a 39-year-old of Uzbek origin and a supporter of the Islamic State (IS) group.If confirmed as a terror attack, it would be Sweden’s first such deadly assault. The 15 injured included children and nine people were “seriously” wounded, health authorities said.Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said he had strengthened the country’s border controls.“Terrorists want us to be afraid, want us to change our behaviour, want us to not live our lives normally, but that is what we’re going to do. So terrorists can never defeat Sweden, never,” he said.The attack occurred just before 3:00 pm (1300 GMT) when the stolen truck slammed into the corner of the bustling Ahlens store and the popular pedestrian street Drottninggatan, above ground from Stockholm’s central subway station.Pictures taken at the scene showed a large blue beer truck with a mangled undercarriage smashed into the Ahlens department store.Witnesses described scenes of terror and panic.“A massive truck starts driving … and mangles everything and just drives over exactly everything,” eyewitness Rikard Gauffin told AFP.“It was so terrible and there were bodies lying everywhere… it was really terrifying,” he added.The truck was towed away in the early hours of Saturday.TrappedPolice cars and ambulances rapidly flooded the scene after the attack, as central streets and squares were blocked off amid fears that another attack could be imminent.Helicopters hovered overhead across the city, sirens wailed, and police vans criss-crossed the streets using loudspeakers to urge people to head straight home and avoid crowded places.But with the metro system and commuter trains shut down for several hours after the attack, other streets heading out of the city were packed with thousands of pedestrians trying to find a way home.Haval, a 30-year-old sales clerk who didn’t want to reveal his last name, was in the metro at the time of the attack.His train stopped immediately and he had to get out, along with all the other passengers.They walked along the street before being ushered inside a nearby hotel for safety.“We were suddenly trapped inside a hotel and there was the worst kind of horror in there,” he told AFP.“We were scared, we were scared something else would happen, he added.‘Bleeding to death’Marko was in coffee shop near the scene with his girlfriend when he saw the truck ram into the store.“He hit a woman first, then he drove over a bunch of other people … We took care of everyone lying on the ground,” he told Swedish daily newspaper Aftonbladet.Hasan Sidi, another passerby, told Aftonbladet he saw two elderly women lying on the ground.He said people at the scene urged him to help one of the women who was “bleeding to death”.“One of them died… I don’t know if the other one made it,” Sidi said.“The police were shocked. Everyone was shocked.”‘You can’t break us’In an editorial, Sweden’s biggest broadsheet Dagens Nyheter wrote: “What we feared for a long time finally happened.”“The fear and panic right after the incident was inevitable. The images from the attack were terrible,” the paper said.But Stockholm managed to stay “cool-headed” even though the attacker struck “Sweden and Stockholm’s heart”, it added.Friday’s attack was the latest in a string of similar assaults with vehicles in Europe, including in London, Berlin and the southern French city of Nice.The deadliest came last year in France on the July 14 Bastille Day national holiday, when a man rammed a truck into a crowd in the Mediterranean resort of Nice, killing 86 people.Last month, Khalid Masood, a 52-year-old convert to Islam known to British security services, killed five people when he drove a car at high speed into pedestrians on London’s Westminster Bridge before launching a frenzied knife attack on a policeman guarding the parliament building.And in December, a man hijacked a truck and slammed into shoppers at a Christmas market in Berlin, killing 12 people.In 2014, IS called for attacks on citizens of Western countries and gave instructions on how they could be carried out without military equipment, using rocks or knives, or by running people over in vehicles.last_img read more
