Contract talks stall between Ramsey and Arsenal

first_imgArsenal has not made a breakthrough in contract talks with Aaron Ramsey, and there are rumours the Welsh midfielder will leave in January.Ramsey’s current deal will run out at the end of the season, and the Gunners had hoped to resolve his contract issues before the start of the current campaign.Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United both expressed an interest in signing Ramsey during the summer, and they are monitoring the situation at the Emirates. It’s believed Aaron Ramsey wants similar deals like that of his teammates who signed a new deal worth £110,000-a-week in wages.Tammy Abraham, ChelseaChelsea hat-trick hero Tammy Abraham hopes for more Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Tammy Abraham hopes this season will be his big breakthrough at Chelsea after firing his first hat-trick for the club in Saturday’s 5-2 win at Wolves.Gunners’ boss Unai Emery made it clear during pre-season he wants Ramsey to renew, but the club is in a difficult position as they are equally looking to trim their wage bill. The north Londoners are keen to avoid a similar situation with Ramsey as they have experienced with the likes of Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez in the past. They were forced to sell the latter pair, and now there are fears Ramsey will have to be sold in January if new terms are not agreed.Ramsey was dropped to the bench in Arsenal’s 3-2 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday and now has added competition in midfield following the arrivals of  Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.last_img read more

For Mourinho Hazard has matured as a footballer

first_imgAfter Eden Hazard’s honest comments about failing Jose Mourinho during their time at Chelsea, the Portuguese manager responded accordingly. This past week there was a statement Eden Hazard made about Jose Mourinho that surprised everyone, he accepted his part of responsibility when the Portuguese manager was sacked and revealed he apologized to the boss after it happened.Sometimes we don’t realize how much influence the best players can have in their squads, when they are not at their top form it shows in the team’s performance and that is exactly what happened with Eden Hazard.During that season after Jose came back to win the Premier League on his second spell, Hazard confessed that the players asked the manager for more vacation time and he returned in very poor shape. This affected the squad’s performance because Hazard is the top player in Chelsea. Now that some time has passed, the Belgian playmaker understands that he was also to blame for the team’s bad situation and he regretted not playing under Jose Mourinho for a longer period of time.Eden even hinted that he would love working under the Portuguese manager again, something that may or may not be possible in the future. Hopefully in a different league like Spain, for example.JOSE AND HAZARD TO REUNITE AT REAL⁉Could Jose Mourinho and Eden Hazard be set for a surprise reunion at Real Madrid, in light of the player’s comments this week? https://t.co/ddEgkXVDm8 pic.twitter.com/OOeA1PCKEr— Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) October 14, 2018But after Hazard’s comments last week, it was Jose Mourinho’s time to respond and he did it in style with what can arguably be considered high praise between two legends of the game. The Red Devils’ boss recently spoke to Sky Sports ahead of Manchester United’s visit to Stamford Bridge and Jose spoke about the threat that Hazard poses to his players, but he also referred to those comments.“If I only think about Eden, we are in trouble. It’s Eden, It’s Willian, it’s [N’Golo] Kante. It’s really hard to play against a team and focus on one man if that special man is surrounded by special players,” said Mourinho about stopping Hazard this Saturday.“He is a good kid. He was a good kid in my time and now he is a good man, three or four years more maturity he was a kid and now is a man,” added Mourinho about Hazard’s recent comments.“I think he knows how good he is, I think he knows how much he can influence the destiny of his team in the course of a season.”“In my first season he was voted the best player in the Premier League and the team was champion. In my second season he was not very good, but we were not very good.”Daniel Fark, Norwich City, Premier LeagueDaniel Farke, From mid-table in the Championship to the Premier League Manuel R. Medina – September 14, 2019 Norwich City manager, Daniel Farke, has taken his team from the middle of the table in the English Championship to play with the big boys in the Premier League.“Then Antonio comes, he was the best player in the Premier League and they won the title again, and he knows that with his talent he can influence the destiny of his team.”Eden Hazard is expecting some special treatment from Manchester United’s midfield at Stamford Bridge today.More: https://t.co/qMVhrNUdN1 pic.twitter.com/blVpCMuRKa— Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) October 19, 2018We seriously can’t wait for this match to start, it’s going to be one of the most exciting fixtures of the weekend in all of Europe and both clubs are already taking the necessary precautions to not lose the match. However, the most difficult task will be for Jose Mourinho because he knows that Hazard is currently at the top of his game and there is very little the opponent can do when great stars are unplayable.Surely there is already a plan in motion to try and stop him, but considering the poor defensive capabilities that Manchester United has at the moment, there isn’t much they can do to avoid getting owned by the Belgian Red Devil. As far as the future is concerned, it would obviously be great watching Hazard play under Jose Mourinho again but the future is uncertain right now. Let us focus on the present for now, and talk about the future after this match is over. The Premier League is back!Time for Merse’s predictions – do you agree?More: https://t.co/11p0dztkcj pic.twitter.com/Jwm0hWc84F— Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) October 19, 2018Which club would you like for Hazard and Mourinho to cross paths again? Spalletti impressed with Inters mentality

first_imgLuciano Spalletti praised the performance of both Inter Milan and Benevento despite thrashing the opposition 6-2 to book a date with Lazio FC.Inter seemed to be on a smooth ride when they went 2-0 up within six minutes, but Benevento netted twice to reduce the deficit after Spalletti’s men went on a scoring spree“I told (Benevento Coach Cristian) Bucchi after the final whistle that he ought to be proud of that performance,” Spalletti said on Inter TV and cited on Football Italia.“When we went 4-0 up, there was the risk they would stop playing and our attitude was one of assuming it was over, but they constantly pushed forward to harass us off the ball. It was a real game and a difficult one.“I compliment my team because they proved themselves very professional in their approach during the week building up to it. There is the risk of getting distracted and embarrassed, the way we were last year, so this result is a step forward.Romelu Lukaku, Inter MilanLukaku backed to beat Ronaldo in Serie A scoring charts Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Former Inter Milan star Andy van der Meyde is confident Romelu Lukaku will outscore Cristiano Ronaldo in this season’s Serie A.“I was impressed with the players who haven’t been on the field as much this season, such as Andrea Ranocchia, Daniele Padelli, Antonio Candreva, and Roberto Gagliardini.”It was a strange atmosphere at San Siro, as the game was played behind closed doors as punishment for repeated racist chanting from Inter fans.“It was not really a match,” said Spalletti. “This is not sport or the kind of spectacle we want to see. It is not football, it is not entertainment. Nobody wants to be in a stadium with that atmosphere.”The Nerazzurri go forward and will face Lazio in the quarter-final later this month.last_img read more

Prisoners At Hiland Correctional Center Care For Dogs Dropped From The Iditarod

first_imgFacebook0TwitterEmailPrintFriendly分享Female inmates at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center have been caring for dogs dropped from this year’s Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Sixty-seven mushers with their dogs began the race for Nome last Sunday, and the winner is expected to arrive early this week. The inmates provide care and housing for sled dogs dropped from the race. Dogs dropped along the race route are shipped back to Anchorage where many have been taken in at HMCC until their owners/handlers return to claim them. During the day, a crew provides care for the dogs. And another operates at night, just in case more loads of dropped dogs arrive, during the dark hours.center_img As long as anyone can remember, this has been a tradition for Iditarod dogs that are too tired or sore to keep racing. Adele and her longtime partner Simon Konecki have broken up

first_imgAdele and Simon KoneckiInstagramThey could have had it all but sadly they have called it quits. British singer Adele and her husband Simon Konecki called off their relationship over the weekend. Sharing a statement from her rep, Adele wrote how they have separated but will continue to show support towards raising their son.As per the statement shared by Adele’s rep, it reads, “Adele and her partner have separated. They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.” On the same, a source has quoted to E! News that they grew apart. “They had a lot in common early on, but eventually they just grew apart. She became a bigger and bigger star, and he was okay [with] being in the background, but as she got bigger and had massive tours and intense schedules, they just grew apart,” said the source. However, despite the differences, the couple will continue to keep close ties for their son. The source did state to E! News that they want to keep their separation amicable since they have their son, Angelo, together. Reports further state that theirs won’t be an ugly breakup. The source believes, “it’s highly unlikely this is going to get ugly.”Ever since they first got together in 2011, Adele and Simon kept their relationship super private. “Their marriage was clearly working for a very long time,” the insider added. “Whenever she was out at big openings and special events, he was usually with her, and they looked really just happy together and in love. They were into the marriage pretty much until they decided this just isn’t working anymore.” AdeleInstagramInterestingly, the news of Adele and Simon calling it quits comes after the 30-year-old singer was spotted in New York City without a wedding ring. Speculations arose as she was spotted less with Simon and more with her friends from Hollywood and music fraternity. She was previously spotted with Jennifer Lawrence, hopping across gay bars in the Big Apple.Considering how they have been very private about their relationship from the start, perhaps their divorce proceedings will also be a quiet affair.last_img read more

Germany plans security refurbishment after Berlin attack

first_imgWellwishers stand in front of a makeshift memorial for the victims of the December 19th terror attack in Berlin, on the very site of the attack in the Breitscheidplatz Christmas market, on December 31, 2016. AFPGermany’s interior minister on Tuesday outlined plans for a security services overhaul, seeking greater federal powers on domestic intelligence and quicker expulsions of illegal migrants following the Berlin truck attack.Thomas de Maiziere also called for giving federal police wider oversight across the country’s 16 states, and for a new national crisis management centre to be set up.“We don’t have federal jurisdiction to deal with national catastrophes. The jurisdiction for the fight against international terrorism is fragmented,” he wrote in a guest column for the daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.“The federal police’s scope of action is restricted to railway stations, airports and border controls,” he wrote, stressing that “it is time” to reexamine Germany’s security set-up.Policing and domestic intelligence services in Germany are currently decentralised and controlled by the country’s 16 states. The plans for a sweeping reform come after a series of embarrassing security failures, with the December 19 attack training a spotlight on the gaps. After Tunisian suspect Anis Amri allegedly rammed a truck into a crowded Christmas market, killing 12, it swiftly emerged that the asylum seeker had slipped through the net of security services.Amri, 24, who was days later shot dead by Italian police, had been under surveillance since March, but German police dropped their watch in September thinking he was a small-time drug dealer. The failed asylum seeker should also have been deported months ago but Tunisia did not provide the necessary paperwork until after the attack.Deportation centres -De Maiziere also said federal detention centres should be set up to hold rejected asylum seekers and illegal immigrants in the period leading up to their expulsion. In order to close security gaps, federal police must be given wider powers, the minister said.“The current remit of the federal police is too limited,” he said.“We need a set of common rules and better coordination, for instance in checking dangerous individuals.”The federal government should also take charge of domestic intelligence services, he said, noting that trouble-makers do not seek to disrupt only one state but the country as a whole. But de Maiziere’s suggestions quickly drew criticism, including from Ralf Jaeger, the interior minister of Germany’s most populous state North Rhine-Westphalia, who opposes removing state control over domestic intelligence services. The Social Democratic Party’s parliamentary chief Thomas Oppermann also accused de Maiziere of heading down a radical path with the security overhaul. The Islamophobic and rightwing populist party AfD meanwhile claimed credit for the planned measures, saying it had been seeking such reforms for months.Security failings -De Maiziere is a close ally of Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is running for a fourth term in a general election expected in September. Her government came under fire in the wake of the December 19 attack for its liberal border policy, which has allowed in more than one million asylum seekers since 2015, and for allowing Amri to slip through the net despite documented security concerns. The December attack was only one of several cases last year that exposed security failings in Germany. In October, police botched an attempt to arrest a Syrian bomb plot suspect. The man was finally caught after a nationwide manhunt, thanks to Syrian asylum seekers who detained him but was later found hanged in his cell. And in November, Germany’s domestic spy service unmasked a Spanish-born agent in its own ranks as a suspected Islamist. Media reports said he was also a former gay porn actor.last_img read more

Snapchat Gains 4 Million Users in Q1 as Snap Beats Earnings Estimates

first_imgSnap topped Wall Street estimates on the top and bottom lines in the first quarter of 2019 — and the still-unprofitable company managed to show an uptick in Snapchat users for the first time in a year.Revenue for the quarter was $320 million, up 39% year over year, while it narrowed its net loss to $310.4 million in Q1 2019 (an adjusted loss of 10 cents per share) vs. $385.9 million in the year-earlier period.Analyst consensus estimates for Snap’s Q1 were for revenue of $306.5 million and an adjusted net loss of 12 cents per share. Snap shares rose as much as 8% in after-hours trading Tuesday on the results but later fell to around +1%.Snapchat’s daily active users were 190 million in Q1 2019 — up 4 million, or 2%, from 186 million in the prior quarter, but down from 191 million in Q1 2018. In North America, the messaging and media service’s DAUs were 80 million (up from 79 million in Q4 and down from 81 million in the year-earlier quarter). Snapchat Parent Company Raises $1.265 Billion in Debt Financing, Citing Potential Acquisitions Related Snapchat had ended 2018 with 186 million daily active users, flat sequentially and down 1 million versus the end of 2017.Three weeks ago, at its first partner summit in L.A., Snap announced several initiatives designed to spur growth and broaden its reach. Those include a new games platform; the ability to let third-party apps give their users the ability to create Stories from Snapchat; an ad network to bring Snapchat ads to third-party apps; and a new slate of original shows from BuzzFeed, New Form and others.“In the first quarter we delivered strong results across our business with growth in daily active users and revenue,” Snap CEO Evan Spiegel said in a statement. “This month we announced several new products that we believe will drive further engagement and monetization. As we look towards the future, we see many opportunities to increase our investments, and will continue to manage our business for long-term growth.”According to Spiegel, as of March, Snapchat ads can now reach 75% of U.S. consumers 13-34 — more than Instagram. In addition, Snap by the end of Q1 had widely launched its revamped Android application for Snapchat “with promising early results,” according to Spiegel. On some of the “lowest performing” Android devices, the new app produced a 6% increase in the number of people sending snaps within the first week of upgrading. Compared to the prior version, he said, the Android rebuild is 25% smaller, opens 20% faster on average, and is modularized to allow for “efficient ongoing innovation.”In a nutshell, “this is the price of admission to international markets,” Spiegel said about the Android app rebuild, on Snap’s earnings call.In discussing the new Snapchat Landmarkers augmented-reality feature — which lets users interact with real-world landmarks — Spiegel called out the company’s deal with HBO, which bought a sponsored AR lens to promote “Game of Thrones” in which a zombie dragon lands on New York City’s Flatiron Building.Snap said that in Q1 2019, the Snapchat Discover section now includes more than 450 content channels. Nearly half of its daily Discover viewers watched Discover seven days per week in the quarter, the company said. In addition, Snapchat content partners in March increased their total mobile monthly audience in the U.S. by an average of more than 30% just by publishing to Discover, according to the company (citing comScore research). Average revenue per user was $1.68, up 39% year-over-year and down 19% sequentially (reflecting seasonality in the business). Total ad impressions were up 155% year-over-year and 6% sequentially, while pricing was down 42% year-over-year and down 22% driven primarily by an increase in supply. Also on the earnings call, Jeremi Gorman, Snap’s chief business officer, said the company reorganized its U.S. advertising team as of April 1 to have a “more scalable structure” and is extending that to its international ad group. The Snap ad groups are organized into three teams: enterprise (large brand advertisers), emerging advertisers and direct-response clients. “While we expect some disruption to our near-term business, we are confident that this is the right long-term structure,” she said. For the second quarter of 2019, Snap said it expects revenue to be $335 million-$360 million (up 28%-37% year-over-year) with loss before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of $150 million-$125 million (versus EBITDA of -$169 million in Q2 2018).Snap, of course, calls itself “a camera company,” not a social networking or messaging service. “We believe that reinventing the camera represents our greatest opportunity to improve the way people live and communicate,” the 7-year-old company’s mission statement reads.center_img Popular on Variety Snap Intros $380 Two-Camera Spectacles — A Fashion Accessory for Snapchat AR Content ×Actors Reveal Their Favorite Disney PrincessesSeveral actors, like Daisy Ridley, Awkwafina, Jeff Goldblum and Gina Rodriguez, reveal their favorite Disney princesses.
