Travel bookings to get more mobile study

first_imgOnline travel bookings are becoming more mobile (Image Mark Harada)   Mobile travel bookings are expected to triple by 2013, signalling a slight, but not insignificant shift in the way travel is booked online, a study by travel research firm PhoCusWright has found. According to the study, gross travel bookings made in the United States on mobile devices reached nearly US$2.6 billion in 2011, representing 2.4 per cent of all online travel purchases. And over the next two years, that share is anticipated to grow to over $8 billion, or 6.5 per cent of all internet bookings. Although its share of the total travel market will remain “small” over the next two years, the dollar value being transacted on Smartphones, tablet computers and other portable gadgets is “substantial”, says PhoCusWright communications director and senior analyst Cathy Schetzina. “The mobile platform is clearly changing traveler behavior, yielding incremental bookings in addition to the expected channel shift,” Ms Schetzina remarked. “And as merchandising capabilities improve, travel companies will have an even broader range of mobile revenue opportunities.” Source = e-Travel Blackboard: M.Hlast_img read more

Dbacks president Derrick Hall Franchise still f

first_img D-backs president Derrick Hall: Franchise ‘still focused on Arizona’ Cardinals expect improving Murphy to contribute right away Where does the truth lie?“I still think I know what I think about Kevin Kolb, and I still think it’s worth it to go get him,” Sports 620 KTAR’s Dave Burns said on Sports Interactive. “If you need a quarterback and you’re the Arizona Cardinals he can be a difference maker.”Pointing to Kolb’s resume, which includes all of seven career starts, Burns said it is too early to give up on the guy.Sports 620 KTAR’s Paul Calvisi, though, noted that nobody really knows much about Kolb at this point.“And that’s the point, it’s going to be a risk,” he said. “He could be the next Matt Schaub or he could be another iteration of A.J. Feely, you don’t know.”Indeed, nobody knows what Kolb ultimately will become. There are plenty of people who think they know, but until the quarterback sinks or swims on the field any discussion will include purely speculation. And, as we’re seeing now, that speculation’s tone varies pretty much by the day. Nevada officials reach out to D-backs on potential relocation First he’s the next great quarterback, needing only an opportunity to show his stuff. Then, suddenly, he’s overrated, a mediocre-at-best signal caller who crumbles under pressure and can’t complete a deep ball.Trying to determine Kevin Kolb’s value during the lockout has been like Derek Anderson trying to be an NFL quarterback: an exercise in futility. While Eagles coach Andy Reid has been heaping praise on his 26-year-old backup, others around the NFL are saying the QB is not worth the first round pick he’s likely going to command. center_img Top Stories What an MLB source said about the D-backs’ trade haul for Greinke Comments   Share   last_img read more
