Sri Lanka saddened by loss of life in Nepal


“We in Sri Lanka share the grief of the people of Nepal at this time of distress. Our thoughts, at this difficult time, are with the families of those who lost their lives, those who were injured and with those who have suffered damage to homes and property. Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration,” the Prime Minister said. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, in a letter to Nepal Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, said that the people of Sri Lanka and he are deeply saddened by the loss of life and property as a result of the powerful storm in Nepal on Sunday evening. Sri Lanka today said that it was saddened by the loss of life and property in Nepal following the storm on Sunday.At least 30 people were killed in the storm and several others were displaced. The BBC reported that the freak storm destroyed houses, overturned vehicles, uprooted trees and brought down power lines in Bara and Parsa districts.The casualties included passengers in a bus that was blown off a road, the BBC reported.
